Seasonal ingredients are fresher, more nutritious and ultimately tastier than food that is out of season – three good reasons to try our current specials.
The Freshest Seafood!
There is a big emphasis on seafood on our menu because of our seaside location. We love the idea of bringing a taste of the coastline, just metres away, to your table. So, this summer we have been sure to add in our favourite seasonal dishes which are packed with flavour. Here are a few:
Old Mans Monkfish – Monkfish and Tiger Prawn Skewer
Although monkfish doesn’t have a particular ‘season’ so it can be enjoyed all year round, it is a culinary treasure and we have added it to our menu to accompany our juicy tiger prawns. Together they create a satisfying summery fish dish which is full of flavour.
Chargrilled Octopus – with chilli fries and garlic sauce.
Imagine pairing a lovely glass of something chilled with this gorgeous light dish. Although octopus is caught all year round, it definitely suits a sunny, summer evening well.
Sian’s Favourite – 2oz fillet steak served with quarter of a lobster and thermidor sauce.
Nothing says summer like a lobster dish. There are lots of local Pembrokeshire fishermen who make their living from this delicious shellfish in the summer months and we are happy to be able to support them. Here at Twelve we have paired lobster with a fillet steak for a different twist on surf and turf!
The Best of British!
We have used the very best of British produce to create colourful and varied dishes. This is because we understand how important it is to support local growers and to reduce our carbon footprint where we can. Here is a little sample of our delicate, seasonal, “best of British” dishes!
Seasonal Salads
A delightful, nutritious salad makes for a light supper. We combine fresh ingredients to make a crisp and delicate dish.
Beetroot and Mozzarella Caprese Salad – sliced beetroot with buffalo mozzarella in the traditional Italian style caprese salad with a twist.
Juicy beetroots are harvested from July onwards so are an excellent addition to a summer menu. We have matched traditional British fare with an Italian classic, for a sweet and satisfying salad.
Pancakes with Strawberries and Cream
Strawberries are the pin up of British summer fruits and are, as everyone knows, a match made in heaven with cream. We wanted to create a satisfying dessert and so pancakes seemed a fabulous choice as an accompaniment without over-powering the flavour of in season strawbs!
Welsh Cheeseboard
Cheese is a satisfying way to round off any meal and as lush, green Wales produces a fine selection, we wanted to play our part in celebrating them. A cheese board adds another mini “tasting” element to your meal and we are sure everyone will want to get stuck in.
Blackcurrant Sorbet
Sorbet makes for a delicious palate cleanser. Blackcurrants have a short summer season in the UK and they are packed full of nutrients. They are hailed as a home grown superfood and have no air mile. It was a no brainer to add them to our menu!
Treats from Abroad
We couldn’t resist bringing the continent to you with our menu, and quite frankly why should we? We have carefully selected the finest flavours and, although some of the ingredients may not always be in season, they are an excellent way of adding freshness, nutrients to dishes throughout the year.
Green Olives
These more-ish little fruits are a great food for wetting your appetite. They are almost hearty without being filling and are nice sharing option.
Lemon Tart – Served with Cream
Lemons are harvested in late Autumn but can be stored in many ways without affecting their flavour. This is why we are able to add a zingy lemon tart to our menus. It will transport you back to dreamy holidays abroad and help create new memories of ‘that summer well spent’ in Wales!
Lemon and Passion Fruit Sorbets
As with the lemon tart, we wanted to make the most of global flavours and so created a flavourful, tangy palate cleansing lemon sorbet, as well as a sweeter passion fruit option.
Where possible we use local growers, producers and suppliers to ensure we buy the most flavoursome ingredients possible. This means we adapt our menus to incorporate seasonal produce too. From it we have designed, sampled, tested and tried many dishes until we have decided on these scrumptious, summer favourites. Are you tempted yet?!
